Bliss : ecstasy, heaven, paradise, enjoyment, happiness, delight, pleasure, harmony
OK…so maybe not. I don’t know of anyone who would describe their first 10 years of marriage with ONLY those words. Maybe at times. Then there are the other times. But, even with those other times…it has still been a good 10 years and I felt like since it is a decade, it needed a little recapping!
Year 1 - 2001
Married in Dec 2000…so Jan of 2001 we moved Ben to TN into our 1st house we had bought the previous fall…and then added Atlas to the family
And yes, the dog is cute, too. At least he was back then when he could fit in the palm of our hand.
Year 2 – 2002
Lots of remodeling of that OLD, but cute house in Tennessee
This is eventually our Master Bedroom
Year 3 - 2003
Ben graduates, we move to Chicago, Colton is born, and we move to Arizona to the Rez! BIG YEAR
Middle Tennessee State University graduate in Concrete Industry Management…and the goatee…
Turns into this “sexy” moustache while in Chicago. Hmmm…. Glad that phase is gone.
Daddy’s arm was Colton’s (and therefore mommy’s) favorite spot after he was born.
From Nashville, TN to Crystal Lake, IL to Window Rock, AZ…all in 10 months
Year 4 - 2004
Adapt to life on an Indian Reservation – and to new jobs and each other as we work together full time for the Navajo Housing Authority
Window Rock, Arizona Family Picture
Year 5 - 2005
Bryson is born, Ben’s dad passes away from cancer, and almost every weekend is spent on the huge remodel on the house in Durango, Colorado where we planned to move upon leaving the Navajo Reservation.
Bryson (about 6 wks old), Colton with their Great Grandma Maria (Oma, Ben’s dad’s mother)
Grandpa Werner Petzinger – doing what he loved to do…help us work!
Tearing down our TN garage to build a new one back in 2002.
Passed Away: April 15, 2005
The beginning of the complete overhaul of our Colorado home…just lifting off the garage roof with a crane.
(Didn’t we learn our lesson with the last house? Guess not, but I promise we have now!)
Year 6 - 2006
We leave the reservation and move to Bayfield, Colorado (for about 2 months living in a travel trailer) then move to Hailey, Idaho
The finished product (as we had to leave it) in Bayfield, Colorado. We never even moved in. Which is why we lived in a trailer—it wasn’t done when we moved there. :(
Welcome to iconic, historic Sun Valley, Idaho
Year 7 - 2007
We build our dream home in Bellevue, Idaho
Year 8 - 2008
Anna is born
Year 9 - 2009
My Dad (aka Pop) goes through cancer treatment.
Year 10 - 2010
For the first time in our married life, it was a pretty uneventful year…
no major sickness, no construction projects, no new babies, no moves…what a pleasant year…we even got GRASS!
I guess I needed Year 10 to be ready for Year 11 which will involve a big move, a stressful attempted sale of our home, AND a new baby!
But in spite of the stresses year 11 will bring, my hope for the next 10 years is that we get closer and closer to achieving bliss on a daily basis.
Thanks babe for a good 1st decade!
I love you so much. Thank you for being you and still making me laugh even 10 years later.
