All buckled in – Colton is ready to start the trail up to the Seafoam Lakes. Within a 1/4 mile, we were already breaking new trail around fallen trees. For some reason, the Jeep wasn’t keeping a charged battery - (when we got home I replaced the battery). Just in case the battery died again, I parked the jeep on a slope in our campground so I would be able to push-start the old battle wagon. We didn’t have any problems, thank goodness, because it would have taken 2 days to hike out of that basin.
Without a fancy luggage rack.
We improvised by strapping the backpacks together trough the roll cage.
Chewi is obediently sitting in the back seat. Good Dog.
At Base Camp.
Crystal clear water, great fire pit and tent site.
The scenery around this lake is like a cathedral whose orchestra kicks up with the wind.
Colton got to try out his very own slingshot.
“Shoot towards the lake”
was the only instruction given.
He quickly started to seek out unsuspecting little forest creatures.
Give him a few years and those furry friends will have someone to worry about…..
This little 7 year-old knows how to cast a rod and reel it back in. We’re working on the knots.
Colton helped clear the trail from some dead-fall trees. Strong little guy!
We fished the inlet where the water filters right into the lake from the mountains above. Chewi seen in the distance spent most of the day in the water punching the surface and biting the waves. She’s pretty easy to entertain.
My little climbing buddy! We really put on some elevation that day! Colton never complained.
Dramatic Boulder Fields.
We scurried up like it was a play ground! It’s always fun to explore the nooks and crannies of those high peaks. This was a good opportunity to show Colton how to safely navigate his way around the high country by picking safe routes for hiking up to make sure we could safely descend as well. He did great!
Beautiful Lake on a cloudy afternoon.
Stopping to take a breath. Almost to the tree line.
Overlooking Basecamp Lake (unnamed) on the Left and Seafoam Lake on the Right. Mother Nature contrasting shapes.
We stopped here, at this incredible boulder field-bowl for lunch, water and a well-deserved break.
There’s something very satisfying about over-looking the route you’ve just conquered. This was the high-mark of our hike.
On the trail home. Colton was a great camping and hiking companion. Chewi was our camp garbage disposal and guard dog. I can’t wait to do this again and bring along Bryson next year!!!!
